The Toyota RAV4 is a versatile SUV that can cruise down the highway, navigate through city streets, and tackle some rough terrain. It has a well-equipped cabin with tech and convenience features, and room for up to five. It remains mostly the same for the 2021 model year with the only update a new Blizzard Pearl exterior color to replace the Super white. Here's a look at some details for the 2021 RAV4.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level RAV4 LE has 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, roof rails, and rear privacy glass. Stepping up to the XLE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic headlights, keyless entry, a height-adjustable power liftgate, and heated side exterior mirrors. The XLE Premium adds 19-inch wheels and a power sunroof, while the Adventure has a more aggressive style than the other trims and adds taller roof rails. Next in the lineup, the Limited has upgrades in the cabin, and then the TRD Off-Road comes with black-finished 18-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, and an off-road suspension.
Engine (Power)
The non-hybrid 2021 RAV4 gets power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 203 horsepower. The Adventure and the TRD Off-Road come standard with all-wheel drive, and the rest of the trims come with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive as an available option for the front-wheel drive models. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard.
Performance
The 2.5-liter is plenty for the small RAV4 and will quickly get it up to highway speed. The ride stays comfortable over most roads, and if you want to take it off the beaten path, the TRD Off-Road has extra ground clearance and the performance extras that allow it to tackle uneven terrain with relative ease.
Interior
There's room for five in the RAV4. The seats have plenty of cushioning, and cloth upholstery comes standard. The XLE has a power-adjustable driver's seat and dual-zone automatic climate control, and the XLE Premium adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and it has simulated leather upholstery. Bumping up to the upscale Limited gets you heated front seats, and depending on the trim, Toyota offers heated and ventilated front seats, and you can get a heated steering wheel. Technology features start with a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi, and one USB port. The Entune 3.0 Auto Plus package for the XLE adds an 8-inch touch screen, and the XLE Premium offers an 11-speaker JBL stereo. You'll get the larger touch screen in the Adventure and above, and these trims also get a 120-volt power outlet.
Safety Features
Every RAV4 comes with Toyota's Safety Sense 2.0 group of safety features. This bundle groups together driver aids such as lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, a traffic sigh reader, and forward collision warning with a mitigation system that includes pedestrian detection and automatic braking. A blind-spot monitor comes in XLE and above, and this works with a rear cross-traffic alert systems. The Limited adds a digital rearview camera, and some optional safety features include a top-down surround-view camera system along with front and rear parking sensors.
