The Toyota Corolla continues its reign as the best-selling car in the world. For the 2022 model year, Toyota kept it the same as the 2021 with all the features and equipment buyers love. This sedan has an excellent reputation, you can count on its reliability, and it comes with a long list of standard safety features. Here's a quick look at the 2022 model.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Corolla lineup starts with the L. It has 15-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights. It only takes a step up to the LE to get 16-inch wheels, heated side exterior mirrors, and keyless entry, while the XLE adds 16-inch alloy wheels, upgraded LED headlights with accent lighting, and a sunroof. The SE adds 18-inch alloy wheels, and the SE Nightshade adds to this with black exterior trim elements and black 18-inch wheels.
Choose the XSE for 18-inch alloy wheels and grey metallic sport side rocker panels or the Apex Edition for an upgraded suspension, lowered ride height, and black and bronze exterior trim elements, including a black grille. The Apex also has a sport-tuned exhaust and summer tires.
Engine (Power)
The entry-level engine for the Corolla is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 139 horsepower. The SE gets its power from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 169 horsepower and has both Sport and Normal driving modes. The 2.0-liter also has a dynamic-shift CVT and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, or you can opt for the six-speed manual transmission.
Performance
The Corolla offers a smooth ride and has a responsive steering system that makes it easy to handle around tight corners. Its compact size means it will easily slip into small parking spots, and it has a suspension that eats up most road imperfections.
Interior
There's room for five in the 2022 Corolla, and it has a spacious cargo area with 13.1-cubic feet of room behind all the seats. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, with automatic climate control added to the LE and a power-adjustable driver's seat and simulated leather added to the XLE. The XLE also comes with heated front seats, while the SE gets sport front seats, and the XSE has a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
Technology features in the Corolla start with a 7-inch touch screen display, Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. An 8-inch touch screen comes in the LE, and the XLE gets an upgraded driver information display. Another bump up to the XSE adds an upgraded JBL stereo system. Additional tech features that Toyota makes available include wireless charging, navigation, and extra USB ports.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Corolla comes standard with advanced driver aids. These include a forward collision mitigation system with emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. All Corolla trims also have a pedestrian detection system, road sign recognition, and lane-keep assist, along with automatic high beam headlights. Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert comes in the XLE and above, and you can also get adaptive headlights.
