Trim Levels (Exterior)
For the 2023 model year, Toyota added another trim called the Special Edition to the GR86 so now you can choose among three different trims. However, the manufacturer only created 860 vehicles. These three trims include base, Special Edition, and Premium.
The base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Premium adds a handful of features. It includes 18-inch alloy wheels and high-performance summer tires. If you're lucky enough to snag the Special Edition, you're in for a treat since this trim boasts an exclusive orange paint color, performance exhaust with black chrome tips, and black graphics located on the roof pillar. It also includes 18-inch black aluminum wheels with performance tires.
Engine (Power)
Power for the 2023 Toyota GR86 comes from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This engine is larger than the outgoing 2.0-liter engine as well as produces 23 more horsepower and 28 more torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, but you can opt for a six-speed automatic one.
Performance
One of the best parts of the 2023 GR86 is its handling, especially if it's gripped with optional high-performance summer tires. The grip with these tires helps you drive on bumpy terrain. The available automatic transmission includes paddle shifters so the car can quickly downshift. Like most sports cars, the GR86 comes with rear-wheel drive.
Interior
The 2023 GR86's manually adjustable seats have improved bolstering so your back has ample support. Dual-zone automatic climate control ensures that all travelers remain comfortable. Drivers enjoy a low and unobtrusive dashboard for enhanced visibility, and the smaller steering wheel allows taller drivers to enter and exit the vehicle without issue. Also, when you fold down the rear seats, the GR86 has a surprising amount of storage space, especially compared to other vehicles in its class.
Compared to the outgoing model, the 2023 GR86 has more technology offerings. The 8.0-inch touch-screen display replaces the previous 7.0-inch one so it's easier to operate. The driver also benefits from a 7.0-inch digital display that has Sport and Track modes. All trims come standard with satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Two quick-charging USB ports sit on the center armrest so you can charge your phone but keep it out of the way while you drive. The top-of-the-line Premium trim adds an eight-speaker stereo.
Safety Features
While the outgoing model didn't include many driver-assistance features, the 2023 GR86 does. The vehicle comes standard with a rearview camera but gains a suite of safety features when the vehicle has the optional automatic transmission. A few of these features include automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and adaptive headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel.
