The Toyota Tundra: A Truck With Torque to Take You Places the Competition Can't, Here in Annapolis!

A pickup truck can give you a lot more than the average sedan or hatchback model can: more power, more torque, more towing and more resilience all-around, it really all depends on which pickup truck you choose. The Toyota Tundra is one such truck that gives you all of those capabilities and so much more, combining the efficiency and capability that you need in your next truck with the safety and reliability of the Toyota brand for one truck that can benefit your life in a whole lot of ways. However, in order for us to fully explain all the capabilities of the Toyota Tundra, we should show you how it stacks up against a couple other worthy competitors of its class: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500. We are Koons Annapolis Toyota and we're proudly serving the Bowie and Clarksville areas!

The Toyota Tundra vs The Ram 1500

We begin our thorough comparisons with a pretty well-known challenger of the pickup truck class: the Ram 1500. While the Ram brand is known for the powertrain and overall "muscle" their pickup trucks command, this particular truck falls short of the Toyota Tundra in a lot of important ways. The Toyota Tundra gives you a lot more options even in its base trim levels, so you never feel like you're missing out on the most crucial parts of your truck, no matter which trim you choose.

  • The V8 engine of the Toyota Tundra commands considerably more power than the V6 engine of the Ram 1500, generating about 310 horsepower with a 6,800-pound towing capacity. The Ram 1500 generates about 240 horsepower with a 4,600-pound towing capacity.
  • Like all other 2018 Toyota models, the Toyota Tundra features Toyota Safety Sense™, which adds on driver-assistive technologies in all trim levels, such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Automatic High Beams (AHB), the Pre-Collision System (PCS), and Lane Departure Alert (LDA). While these technologies do have equivalents in the Ram brand, they are absent from many of the base trim levels of the Ram 1500 and have to be added on with a higher trim upgrade.
  • The Toyota Tacoma gives you a few extra conveniences, which one would think would be standard in all cars, but are unavailable from the Ram 1500 base trim levels. Such features include a cabin air filter, seatback storage, vehicle speed proportional power steering, overhead console storage, a CD player and an MP3 player.
  • Finally, the Toyota Tundra begins at a much lower starting price of $32,715 which is about #2,425 less than the $15,140 starting price of the Ram 1500.

The Toyota Tundra vs The Chevrolet Silverado

Enter another worthy competitor: the Chevy Silverado 1500. The Chevy brand, like that of Ram, is known for bringing capability and rugged machismo with many of the cars, trucks and SUVs in their inventory. However, much like Ram, their vehicles can fall short of the Toyota brand in a variety of important aspects. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is, unfortunately, no exception.

  • As with the Ram 1500, there is a big difference in the starting prices of the Toyota Tundra and the Chevy Silverado 1500. The Silverado begins at the MSRP of $36,295, which is an increase of over $3,500 more than the $32,715 starting price of the Toyota Tundra.
  • The base engine of the Toyota Tundra is a 4.6-liter, 310 horsepower 32-valve V8 engine which generates 327 pound-feet of engine torque. Whereas, the engine of the base trim of the Chevrolet Silverado features a 4.3-liter, 285 horsepower 24-valve V6 engine, which generates 305 pound-feet of torque.
  • Aside from the many driver-assistive features of Toyota Safety Sense™, which are also absent from base trim levels the Chevy Silverado 1500, the Silverado also lacks a few other important safety features entirely such as front knee airbags and front halogen headlights.
  • In fact, the Chevy Silverado carries much lower safety ratings from the insurance institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), in categories such as Front Crash Prevention, Headlight Efficacy and the Ease of Use of the LATCH System. The Toyota Tundra has much higher ratings in all of these categories, including the highest "Superior" rating in Front Crash Prevention, over the "Basic" rating of the Silverado 1500.
