Toyota’s venerable Tundra has been completely redesigned for the 2022 model year and features impressive upgrades to its powertrain and suspension while delivering the rugged dependability its fans have come to expect. The full-sized pickup also comes with an amenity-rich interior and introduces options like a hybrid powerplant and new truck bed lengths. Here are a few handy things to know before you test-drive the 2022 Toyota Tundra!

Powertrain Options

Powering the new Tundra is a twin-turbocharged 3.5L i-Force V6 that generates up to 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque—perfect for off-roading and heavy-duty jobs. Buyers also have the option of choosing the hybrid i-Force MAX version of the engine, which pairs with an electric motor to increase output to a whopping 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with this engine, the truck can achieve an EPA-rated 21 combined MPG.

An electronically controlled 10-speed automatic transmission completes the powertrain and intelligently optimizes gearshifts when heading uphill or downhill.

Towing and Hauling

Making good use of its capable powertrain and high-strength steel ladder frame, the Tundra can tow up to 12,000 pounds or carry up to 1,940 pounds in its bed. Toyota has included advanced technology to aid with towing, including an available 7-pin connector that automatically calculates the length of a trailer. The truck also features two tow/haul drive modes that can adjust the throttle depending on what’s being towed.

Off-Road Capability

The Tundra continues to deliver incredible off-road performance with its available 4×4 system. Nicely complimenting it is the available Multi-Terrain Select system, featuring mud, sand, and rock modes. TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road Package-equipped models feature Toyota’s updated Crawl Control system that takes over throttle and braking to maintain a set speed over rough terrain, letting you focus on steering.

In addition to its fully independent suspension, the Tundra offers Bilstein off-road shocks, FOX coil-overs, and an electronically locking rear differential to help conquer the most demanding trails.

Interior

An expertly crafted passenger cabin loaded with high-quality materials awaits you when stepping into the Tundra. Available premium leather-upholstered seating with heating/ventilation provides unparalleled comfort and the Western-flavored 1794 Edition adds rich American walnut trim throughout the interior. You can also open up the cabin and enjoy the fresh country air thanks to the available panoramic moonroof and power vertical rear window.

Infotainment

Equipped with either an 8- or 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, the Tundra’s infotainment system provides smartphone integration, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and plenty of entertainment options. While on the road, you can enjoy streaming audio from apps like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and SiriusXM. An available 12-speaker JBL premium audio system brings theater-quality sound with QuantumLogic Surround technology.

Now an icon in the world of pickup trucks, the Tundra has only gotten better with these updates. Schedule your test drive of the 2022 model by contacting Koons Toyota Annapolis today!
