Sculpted, spacious, and dependable, the Toyota Highlander is also endlessly versatile. This streamlined eight-seater combines a choice of gas or hybrid powertrains to create eleven possible trims that will effortlessly accommodate your lifestyle. So read on to find out which Highlander trim will suit you best.

If you’re looking at traditional gas options, there are six Highlander trims that feature the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine. This provides 265hp at 6,000rpm, 310lb-ft of torque at 1,700rpm, and has an estimated fuel efficiency of 22mpg in city driving, and 29mpg on the highway. The models that feature this powertrain option are:

L

Like all trims, the base model Highlander comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, a driving assistance package that includes a full-speed dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC). You’ll also be getting a 7-inch color multi-information display, 8-inch audio multimedia with six speakers, five USB ports, smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a smart key system.

LE

Like the base model L, the LE has three-zone automatic climate control and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, but you’ll also benefit from a height-adjustable power liftgate, heated power outside mirrors, and a leather-trimmed gear stick and steering wheel.

XLE

With this trim, you can experience the available 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, and will gain Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging. And you’ll upgrade your comfort even more with the power moonroof, heated front seats, a ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels.

XSE

The sportiest member of the Highlander family features trailing-wishbone suspension, twin-tip exhaust, a restyled front fascia with mesh grille and lower spoiler, and a rear lower bumper with gray metallic finish and chrome trim. The XSE is also the only trim to finish SofTex-finished or leather-finished front and second-row seats.

Limited

This luxury model brings all the tech, with the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 12.3-inch multimedia screen, and 11 JBL speakers as standard. The blind-spot monitor and rear-cross traffic alert are augmented by front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, and available panoramic view monitor and backup camera.

Platinum

The top-spec trim brings you all the best aspects of the other models, along with a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade, adaptive front-lighting system, rain-sensing wipers, and a 10-inch color head up display.

Electric Options

Toyota have also released a 2.5l hybrid engine that has a fuel economy of 36mpg in the city, and 35mpg on the highway, giving 243hp. There are five models that feature this powertrain, including the Bronze edition with 18-inch bronze-colored alloy wheels, and bronze trim. The others are:

  • Hybrid LE
  • Hybrid XLE
  • Hybrid Limited
  • Hybrid Platinum
